Project Background of the Gantry Crane Wire Rope Lubrication Project at the Zhenhua Changxing Base in Mexico

Project Background

As a world-leading base for the manufacturing and maintenance of port machinery, the gantry cranes at Zhenhua Changxing Base are the core hubs for heavy cargo handling in ports. As a key load-bearing component, the lubrication quality of steel cables directly affects the operational stability and service life of the equipment. This project focuses on the professional lubrication and maintenance of the hoisting steel cables of gantry cranes, covering two core working areas: the steel cable drums in the rear machine room and the steel cable sections in the trolleys. Precise lubrication is the key to addressing the pain points of traditional maintenance and ensuring the long-term efficient operation of equipment. As a world-leading base for the manufacturing and maintenance of port machinery, the gantry cranes at Zhenhua Changxing Base are the core hubs for heavy cargo handling in ports. Lubrication, as a key load-bearing component, the quality of steel cables directly affects the operational stability and service life of the equipment. This project focuses on the professional lubrication and maintenance of the hoisting wire rope of gantry cranes, covering two core working areas: the rear part of the hoisting wire rope drum in the machine room and the hoisting wire rope section in the trolley. Precise lubrication is the solution to the pain points of traditional maintenance and ensures the long-term efficient operation of equipment.

DEXTER was invited to provide a customized wire rope lubrication solution for this project, formulating an efficient and adaptable professional service plan that was tailored to the on-site working conditions, equipment adaptation requirements, and maintenance quality standards.

Core Pain Points
  • The significant disadvantages of traditional manual lubrication: Manual oiling has obvious problems of uneven oil application and grease accumulation, and the grease cannot fully penetrate the gaps of the steel wire rope strands, resulting in poor maintenance effect.

  • Insufficient efficiency and convenience: Manual refueling is time-consuming and labor-intensive. The transfer of grease is cumbersome and difficult to clean, which affects the overall maintenance progress.

  • Clear special protection requirements: A stable protective oil film must be formed on the surface of the steel cable to resist corrosion and wear from the working environment, ensuring the long-term reliable operation of the equipment.

  • High on-site adaptability requirements: The power supply configuration in the working area is special and lacks traditional power supply specifications, so the equipment needs to be adapted in a targeted manner.

  • The demand for batch operations is urgent: It is hoped that multiple steel cables of the same specification can be lubricated simultaneously to further enhance maintenance efficiency.

Solutions

The precise operation process design in the machine room is as follows: Lift the expander to the designated position, fix the professional lubricator at the rope outlet at the rear end of the lifting drum, start the oil pump simultaneously, and complete the lubrication of the designated operation section in synchronization with the operation of the expander. Trolley operation: Adjust the trolley to an adaptive position, firmly install the lubricator on the hoisting steel cable, adjust it to enter the working environment through a dedicated fixing method, and complete the lubrication of the target section during the trolley's movement.
